Vertical presences within an immense space,
saturated colours, intertwined forms,
I paint many distinct yet singular ways of being
in an imaginary world
where everyone may live in peace
with themselves and with others.
Artist Statement
My painting shows multiple ways of being and the possibility of their coexistence.
Languages, travel, encounters with other cultures, myths, philosophies and spiritual traditions have shaped my view of existence and led me to question fixed identities and ready-made answers.
I begin to paint without a preconceived subject or image. I trust in non-knowing.
A first colour imposes itself. A second responds to it. From their encounter, forms emerge: abstract, human, animal or vegetal, all seemingly suspended in a moment. I transform them, move them, cover them, erase them, revisit them and finally connect them. Gradually, each takes its place and seems to find its own verticality.
What connects them, beyond any story, is a sovereign presence.
It is the experience of simply being there, fully, within the immensity of the world that surrounds them.
Biography
Diane Juliette Delaporte began painting at the age of forty, almost by chance. A self-taught artist, she has been developing a continuous painting practice for about twenty years. Trained as a Servant of the Jeu de Peindre (Painting game) under Arno Stern in Paris, she found there confirmation of a free, non-judgmental approach to mark-making, gesture and colour — an approach already present in her own practice. Her experience of classical and contemporary dance — from centring and discipline to free movement — also informs her understanding of posture and space.
She lives and works in Northern Germany and Southern France.
